Hornsby law firm Collins & Thompson is broadening its horizons by joining Stacks Law Firm, a thriving network of locally owned independent law firms across NSW and Queensland.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our legal team in Hornsby and for our clients, as it will enable us to have access to more than 85 lawyers who are part of the Stacks network,” said David Thompson (pictured), principal of the law firm that will now be known as Stacks Collins Thompson.
“Stacks is unique among Australian law firms in that each local firm can specialise in its chosen fields while being able to provide clients with access to a full suite of specialist legal services by harnessing the expertise and experience of other lawyers across the group.”
Collins & Thompson has a proud 50 year history serving the Hornsby community, with many clients now in their third generation. The firm’s seven lawyers handle nearly all aspects of law, including crime, family, wills and estates, conveyancing, commercial and litigation.
Mr Thompson said his firm recently won a case for a father whose ex-wife tried to take their children interstate and falsely accused him of domestic violence.
“Our solicitor fought the case over Christmas and new year and eventually the court found there was no evidence of domestic violence and the children should stay in Sydney. A good and quick win for the client.
In another case a client was accused of rape and it was her word against his. In a groundbreaking move, the firm hired a technical expert to access deleted data on the accuser’s iPhone. It revealed 500 texts proving the relationship was consensual. Prosecutors dropped the charges and paid the client’s court costs.
“The case demonstrated the need for lawyers to stay on top of technological change, with an increasing number of cases involving social media. Combining our resources with Stacks Law Firm enables us to share ideas and knowledge. Joint investment in new technology and systems saves us costs. All of this translates to better outcomes for our clients,” Mr Thompson said.
CEO of Stacks Law Firm, Ben Stack, welcomed Collins & Thompson into the Stacks network.
“We are excited to have David Thompson and his Hornsby team joining Stacks. Their involvement increases the expertise available to all Stacks clients and, importantly, enhances the range of legal services now available to the people of Hornsby and Sydney’s north shore”, Mr Stack said.
