David commenced his career as a Trainee Industrial Officer with the Chamber of Manufacturers of NSW, working in industrial relations and advising employers on award conditions and rates of pay.
He was admitted as a solicitor in 1979 and is a member of the Law Society of NSW.
David was a founding partner of Collins & Thompson (now Stacks Collins Thompson), which was formed in 1979. As well as practicing law, David was primarily responsible for the growing practice and for providing a smooth, efficient and friendly professional service to the firm’s clientele.
David has wide-ranging experience, encompassing conveyancing, commercial law, small business law, wills and estate planning, estate litigation and legal practice management. His particular skill is identifying the legal issues and explaining them to the client so that they can be promptly addressed, and the best result achieved quickly.
David has formed long term relationships with many of his clients, and subsequently their children, and now grandchildren. He is a good listener with a caring attitude, but will also advise clients of the weakness of their position when necessary.
Outside of law, David is an organic macadamia nut farmer and is also heavily involved in the community. He is a life member of the Lions Club of Hornsby, which he has been involved with for over 35 years. During this time, he has been President four times, as well as holding the roles of Secretary and Treasurer at different points. He is a Melvin Jones Fellow of Lions Clubs International.
David also volunteers as convenor of the Legal Aid duty roster for Hornsby Local Court.
