Ian joined Stacks Forster in 2007, practicing in the areas of civil and general litigation. In particular, he handles many Family Law and Commercial Dispute and Litigation matters, acting for both individuals and companies. A member of the NSW Law Society, Ian is an efficient and approachable solicitor who believes in keeping the lines of communication open with his clients.
Ian has conducted a range of Family Law matters, including Property Settlements, Divorce, Child Custody, De facto Relationship, Wills and Testamentary Trusts, and Pre-nuptial Agreements. Most often, he tends to handle property relocation matters, where a parent wishes to move and take the children, affecting custody settlements and visitation rights.
In his handling of all matters, Ian is friendly and compassionate, seeking to negotiate a settlement wherever possible without having to take the matter to court. One of Ian’s skills is his ability to explain the legal terms and procedure in plain English, to ensure that his clients understand what is involved each step of the way.
Ian has handled a number of complex building and construction disputes, including a recent matter where he acted for a developer against the builder, architect and engineer of a block of units in the Central Coast, where there had been some major building problems resulting in water penetration in a number of the units. The matter was resolved successfully. Ian has also handled a number of Contractual Dispute matters, Partnership and Shareholder disputes, Injunctive Relief applications, Debt Recovery and Insolvency matters, and Employment Dispute matters.
Born in Papua New Guinea and attending school in Sydney as a border, Ian has now been in Forster since 1993. A keen traveler, he has visited Asia, India, Sri Lanka and Europe, and loves cruise ship holidays with his wife. Outside the office, he enjoys jogging and quiet time spent at home with a good book.
Ian is an organised solicitor whose experience in dispute resolution is valued by his clients.
