Legal eagle John Glynn is literally a high flyer. The highly experienced lawyer flies his own plane, was squadron leader in the RAAF Reserve, and is an expert in aviation law.
Now he’s landing in a new law office just down the street in Tamworth, joining his twelve year old firm MGB Lawyers to the rapidly expanding Stacks Law Firm.
His partner at MGB, Dianne Delaney, is experienced in family law, wills and estates also joins the legal team at Tamworth Stacks.
“Flying planes requires the backing of a great team of experts in various fields, and that is what we’ll have with the team at Stacks Law Firm which has more than a hundred lawyers experienced in a wide range of law operating from offices around NSW, ACT and Queensland,” Mr Glynn said.
While he was in the RAAF reserve Mr Glynn was part of a group of RAAF legal reservists who, during the First Gulf War assisted operational commanders on the rules of engagement, something he did not expect to be doing when he first took flying lessons at the age of 16.
He now flies a four seat Cirrus SR-20, the single engine plane that is famous for its ballistic parachute in emergencies. So far he hasn’t had to use it.
“There are old pilots and bold pilots, but no old bold pilots,” he said. “But I enjoy flying to see clients and dealing with their legal problems. The sky is a great office.”
Mr Glynn says a number of recent aircraft crashes brought a focus on the mental health of pilots and new complexities in the law as it applies to pilot medical certificates.
Mr Glynn is also an appointed Arbitrator by the Law Society and the Local Court. Tamworth Stacks now grows to eight solicitors with another two solicitors at the Walcha office.
Maurie Stack OAM, chairman of Stacks Law Firm, welcomed John Glynn and Dianne Delaney to the Tamworth office.
“John opens a whole new area of law for Stacks to be involved in which is very exciting,” Mr Stacks said.
“Dianne’s expertise in family law is also very welcome in the Tamworth office.”
