Our history
Stacks Law Firm, Tweed Heads broadened its scope in 2021 by merging with respected local law firm Wilson Haynes, adding to the firm’s experience in commercial law, litigation and legal services for individuals and businesses.
Prior to this, the firm originated from the 1997 merger of two respected local firms, Halliday & Stainlay and A D Mitchell and Co. Ted Halliday commenced legal practice in Murwillumbah in 1891, with a branch office at Coolangatta. Mr Halliday teamed up with Leo Stainlay after the Second World War, beginning a successful partnership. Tony Mitchell commenced legal practice in Tweed Heads in 1985.
Stacks Law Firm, Tweed Heads is proud of its origins and today continues to provide legal services of the highest calibre to people and businesses from Kingscliff to Pottsville, Murwillumbah and surrounding communities, Banora Point, Tweed Heads, Coolangatta, Kirra, Tugun and beyond.
Our firm is a member of the Stacks Law Group, which means we have access to the combined knowledge and experience of over 90 lawyers in more than 25 offices across New South Wales and Queensland.
Legal services for businesses
We provide legal advice and draft contracts for many local businesses, including those operating in industries such as tourism, waste management and property development, as well as many small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) across a wide range of industries.
As part of this work, we have drafted many contracts for builders and investors acquiring properties as part of spec building arrangements with a major developer, which buys large land parcels, amalgamates them and subdivides them for use as residential accommodation.
Our lawyers provide many businesses with advice on commercial leasing arrangements, intellectual property matters and the sale and purchase of businesses.
Legal services for individuals
Our lawyers are experts in wealth protection. We provide many people with advice on estate planning and legal wills.
We help individuals with the full spectrum of property transactions, including buying and selling units, houses and rural properties. Our work encompasses short-term and long-term residential leasing.
Our personal injury practice helps many people who have suffered physical and psychological injury make a claim for compensation. This includes many who have been injured in the course of their employment.
Our community
Our office sponsors the Tweed Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. Our lawyers have served on the board of many local sporting clubs and the Twin Towns Services Club.
Our staff are actively involved in the community, taking up many opportunities to participate in local events and support local schools, such as Bilambil Public School and Wollumbin High School, with their annual student awards.
