PRESS RELEASE FROM STACKS/GOUDKAMP – 12 SEPTEMBER 2011
Former High Court Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG had invaluable advice for the lawyers from Stacks/Goudkamp when he formally opened their new office at Level 12, 39 Martin Place last Friday night.
“There are three important things to remember in preparing cases for trial,” Kirby told the assembled guests. “Thoroughness, thoroughness and thoroughness.”
In a witty and engaging speech, Mr Kirby said his legal career had started as a personal injury lawyer in the workers compensation area and it had taught him the importance of showing respect to the injured clients and treating them with compassion.
Mr Kirby praised Stacks Goudkamp on its move to its prestigious new location and its work for the injured. He recounted some of the firm’s cases which have gone to the High Court including Ryan v Pledge, Ghantous v Hawkesbury City Council and Rogers v. Whitakker.
Introducing Mr Kirby, the firm’s managing director, Tom Goudkamp, said the move from 1 Castlereagh Street to new premises occupying the entire 12th floor at 39 Martin Place was an important one for the boutique plaintiffs’ law firm.
Mr Goudkamp said it showed that by “upgrading to business class” it had not only survived the ravages of the recent tort law reform, but has actually flourished.
“This is thanks largely to the firm’s brilliant lawyers, its culture of compassion and its excellent reputation in the area of personal injury law,” Mr Goudkamp said.
To commemorate the occasion Stacks/Goudkamp has named their conference room ‘The Michael Kirby Conference Room’.
