After seven years of unprecedented success raising funds for the Cancer Council, one of the major forces behind Taree’s Girl’s Night In has devised a different sort of fundraiser with a more local focus.
Leanne Wood, who with a team of friends has been raising phenomenal amounts for women’s cancer research through the annual Girl’s Night In promotion, is now planning to raise funds for oncology services in the Manning region.
“I hope this initiative will provide funding in our own community and help women, men and children who need oncology services through the Manning Hospital,” she said.
Leanne has organised a charity fundraiser at Taree Race Course on Easter Saturday.
The Golden Slipper Charity Day will be based around a seven race TAB meeting, with lots of glamour added through “best dressed” competitions, music, food and children’s entertainment.
Entry is $10 a head for adults and children enter free.
Those attending are asked to dress up in pink or yellow (for women’s and men’s cancers) and there’ll be great prizes on offer – $400 for the best dressed woman, $400 for the best dressed man, $100 for the best dressed girl and $100 for the best dressed boy.
Leanne said the day has been generously sponsored by the National Australia Bank and supported by Stacks The Law Firm, Pat Hogan and Sons Plumbing and Chatham Bakery.
The first race of the day starts at 10.30am, but the free jumping castle for the children will start at 10am. The tea rooms will be the focus of the fun from 2pm to 6pm.
A charity fund for the cause, Taree Oncology, will be available at the National Australia Bank for anyone who may wish to donate.
