David Akhurst is a solicitor in the Forster office at Stacks, where he began working in 2015.
Coming into the law by happenstance, David now works in the areas of contract law, wills, estates, probate, disputed estates, small claims, business buying and selling, commercial property and conveyancing.
David has 20 years’ experience working in health care, liaising and writing reports for Work Cover claims. In this capacity he has assisted with progressing many TPD and other superannuation insurance claims.
Among David’s notable professional achievements has been working on TPD claims related to mental health, where superannuation trustees have denied claims without having the relevant expertise or relevant advanced medical training in psychiatry to make competent judgments on capacity.
David has used his knowledge of the German language to the benefit of clients, translating burial documents and other documents as the need arises.
In addition to his legal work, David is a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine and a Pilates instructor (movement rehabilitation). His training in TCM and Pilates have been instrumental in developing lateral thinking and the ability to deconstruct arguments to isolate flaws.
In his spare time David enjoys the company of friends and family. He loves to spend time on music composition and engineering, going to the beach and participating in a wide variety of sports, including snowboarding, swimming, surfing, calisthenics, Pilates and yoga.
As part of the Stacks Forster office, David participates in charity golf days and sponsorship of local organisations, as well as contributing to the pro bono work which is done by the firm owing to the nature of some of its matters.
